Last week before Spring Break

Honestly, this upcoming week is going to kill me! This is most definitely the biggest downfall of vacations getting closer. Teachers seem to think that it's fun to schedule tests, presentations, and projects all within the last week before break! It's like they think their doing us a favor by not having it due when we get back. The biggest favor would be to schedule those things two weeks before vacations because it's not like they don't talk to each other. They KNOW that everyone else is having their tests that week too. You'd think they think we actually like to take tests. Next week I have four tests, two presentations, and one BIG project due!...all from Monday-Wednesday. At least Thursday and Friday will be smooth sailing!
The weekends before these crazy weeks do, most definitely, make up for all the hard work that we put into the weekdays!
It makes me wonder if maybe the teachers do stuff like that on purpose. You know, something like a "life lesson" kind of thing. In the "real world" we will be working on deadlines under extreme pressure where our final outcome had better be better than okay or we might be fired. I know that college isn't supposed to be easy, but in situations like these I feel like most teachers would rather us have the time to study and do well in their classes, which really makes me think they overload us on purpose.

Moving Into the Dorms

Coming out of my senior year of high school (which seems to be further into the past everyday), moving out of my house and away from my parents was so exciting for me! I couldn't wait to move into the dorms, make new friends, pick my classes, etc! So in all of this excitement, I remember my parents having to continuously remind me of things that I was going to have to pack that I hadn't even thought of. It's hard to think of going away to college as anything but one big party!..and for the most part, if you want it to be, it is! But, it's always easy to forget that there are soooo many responsabilites that come along with this next big step in your life...so get ready for them!

Going in as a freshmen, and living in a freshmen dorm, makes the process of making new friends a fairly easy one because everyone there wants to make friends ASAP so they can get the fun started! The hard part though, and this doesn't change EVER in life, was making TRUE friends. It's so easy to find friends down the hall or in your dorm to go out any get dinner with or go to a party with, but where it gets difficult is when you need somebody to talk to about more important things than the hot guy down the hall. *Just as a side note, I can't really speak for guys in these kinds of situations because I obviously don't have much experience from that perspective..sorry guys!* This was my first college lesson....trust nobody but yourself until they prove to you that they deserve your trust! This isn't to say that the first person you meet won't end up being your best friend for the rest of your life...but just keep in mind that not everyone needs to know everything about you!...unless of course you want them to. I think this may have something to do with why I became so much closer to my mom when I left for school. My mom and I NEVER got along..and i mean never!..in high school. All of the sudden though, throughout my freshmen year I was calling her with the exciting things that happened to me and also some of the things that were bringing me down. That's been one of the best things college has given me, I wonderful relationship with my mom!

Moving into the dorms may not be the easiest thing, but putting yourself out there and being outgoing and friendly can only end up being a good thing! I remember the first week, my new roomate, who i didnt know, went onto every single floor and knocked on every door in our dorm and introduced herself! There were 10 floors in our dorm and I thought she was going a litttttle overboard with this...but we had people coming into our room left and right and some of my really good friends came from this! So, what I'm saying is that it's a great idea to be as open to meeting new people as you feel comfortable with because the more people you meet, the easier it is to make friends and the more comfortable you feel walking around campus seeing familiar faces!!

common college life obstacles

For my first blog, I wanted to start out by saying that everything that I write about comes from something that I have experienced myself or I have at least watched a close friend experience...basically its about college life. Everyday I find the cliche saying "you live and you learn" becoming closer and closer to the truth. I, 100%, have learned so much in these past four years of my college career. College consists of SO many obstacles and problems like:

  • relationships
  • drinking and/or drugs
  • dorms <----check out my blog about moving into the dorms!
  • classes/teachers
  • friends
  • living off campus
  • food/diet
  • funds $$$
  • activities/sports

...and these are to just name a few. These are just basic topics that bring up so many problems over and over again and I feel like everyone encounters them at some point in time or another. More or less, I hope this is a bit of a college 101 kind of thing. Life in college isn't all problems though, there are so many GREAT experiences that come along with it! There have been so many times that I wish I had a video camera following me around. So along with personal tough times and the resolutions that I've gone through, I most definitely want to share the crazy things that my friends and I inevitably always get into. Let me tell you...it's quite an interesting list...and it keeps growing everyday!
